The Vette build has been slow going due to a number of factors. I am going into the 8th year of the build. Saving money for the project has been the biggest factors. I started a new job working for The Whitlock Group as the on-site tech for Boeing in Houston in support of NASA Operations. Also to add to the problem of saving money is my son started college this year and my daughter will start college next Fall. Fortunately the only car payment we have is the Mini Cooper and that we only have 5 more years of house payments left.
I now have an interesting situation, I have too many cars to store. We bought my daughter her first vehicle, a '97 Jeep Cherokee and my son an '06 Mini Cooper S. I am out of garage space now that we have seven vehicles.
Also, I have two other projects in the works, the '53 Chevy Wagon and the '73 VW Beetle which are also on this site. The 1973 VW Beetle is for sale for $3,500. I have a clear title for this car. This includes the original set of seats along with the new set which is in the Bug now. Also included is a new wiring harness which still needs to be installed. Send me an email at bill@bigdoggarage.com if you are interested in the Beetle.
The latest on the Vette
(26 August 2010)
I installed the suspension as a mock-up. Here is a link to the Suspension page. I did this to ensure that all of the frame work is complete and accurate. I then dropped the engine block, with trans to confirm that the clutch pivot bracket is in the correct spot. The bracket lined up perfectly!
With the Texas Gulf Coast August heat in full swing, I have not been able to work on the Vette lately. 100 plus degrees F. and with almost 100 percent humidity, I just don't last as long in the garage as I once did when I was younger. Looking forward to cooler temps and lower humidity in the next month or so.
When I can get back to work on the Vette, I will strip the frame back down and coat it. As for the coating, I have POR-15, but is it over a year old. I need to decide to use the POR-15 or have the frame powder coated. Once the frame is coated, I will re-install the suspension, brake and fuel lines. When the frame is once again a roller, I plan to drop the body back on.
I will post more pics as I progress!
